Thame first for Teleauora’s gigabit 5G rollout to underserved UK communities
Thame market town high street area, Oxfordshire
Thame, Oxfordshire: Thame high street area is set to become the very first UK community connected through Teleauora’s innovative Fixed Wireless Access network, bringing gigabit-speed broadband to underserved areas of the market town using award-winning 5G mmWave technology.
The launch is backed by strong local council support and signals the beginning of a wider national rollout designed to help market towns, rural communities and overlooked areas access the digital infrastructure they need. For Thame, it means a new specialist broadband option for local businesses and selected residents who have been waiting for faster, more reliable connectivity.
Unlike traditional fixed-line rollouts that can involve lengthy delays, roadworks and disruptive trenching, Teleauora’s solution can be deployed quickly with minimal civil works. That means communities can access next-generation connectivity sooner, with lower environmental impact and less disruption to daily life.
For Thame’s business community, the benefits are immediate and practical. Better broadband supports card payments, online bookings, cloud-based systems, VoIP, security, customer Wi-Fi, remote working and access to day-to-day digital tools that allow local businesses to grow and deliver great service to customers.
CEO Teleauora, Grant Smith said:
“We’re really proud of this milestone for Teleauora, and it’s equally an exciting step for Thame. Our first UK network is set to deliver faster broadband; giving underserved communities the digital confidence to compete, grow and plan for the future.
Teleauora is one of the few providers specialising in connectivity for underserved communities. Its Fixed Wireless Access network also helps towns prepare for future smart-city applications, while meeting local and real-world needs.
The service has been designed to be ultra-fast, reliable and resilient. It is competitively priced, with no installation fees and no mid-agreement price hikes, and the technology is proven to withstand even some of the toughest weather events.
“We believe underserved communities deserve equivalent access to innovative connectivity capability,” added Grant. “Thame is just the start, but our ambition is national – we’re committed to building networks that help people work, trade, learn, connect and grow.”
Oxfordshire County Council’s Digital Infrastructure Programme (DIP) has played a key enabling role in bringing this project to life. Working closely with Teleauora since early 2025, the team helped identify suitable connectivity ‘not-spots’ in Oxfordshire and supported the development of a targeted proposal for central Thame. DIP facilitated introductions to Thame Town Council and the local business community to build local support, and provided practical guidance on surveys, street works and infrastructure deployment. The team also supported access to existing ducting routes, helping to minimise disruption and accelerate delivery. This collaborative approach demonstrates how local authorities can unlock private sector investment and deliver innovative connectivity solutions for underserved communities.
Craig Bower, Director of Oxfordshire County Council’s Digital Infrastructure Programme, said:
“We are pleased to support Teleauora’s investment in Thame, which reflects our wider ambition to improve digital inclusion, economic resilience and future-ready infrastructure across Oxfordshire. Reliable, high-speed connectivity is essential for local businesses, residents and community services. We welcome innovative approaches like this that can accelerate delivery and help underserved areas access the broadband they need, with minimal disruption to the local community.”
