A buyer’s guide in a complex telco market

MONDAY, 18 AUGUST 2025

Once upon a time, fibre was king. There was no alternative, and so, it was the obvious choice - fast, reliable, and the mark of modern infrastructure. But today’s connectivity landscape tells a far more complex story, marked by a plethora of telco choices.

Increasingly, industries are converging, relying more and more on telecommunications as their foundational backbone. Choosing the right solution is no longer just about speed or traditional fibre infrastructure, it’s about future-fit, design and integration. It’s about ensuring the network you invest in is scalable, sustainable, and tailored to meet the needs and use case of your business.

“Big telcos often offer one-size-fits-all solutions as part of their market packages, and that, often leads to overspend,” said Grant Smith, Founder of Teleauora, a multi-award-winning global telco provider specialising in Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).

“You can end up paying for speeds or capacity that you’ll never need” he said.

“That’s why at Teleauora, we focus on custom-made builds regardless of whether it’s for a smart city precinct, pop-up housing, or an industrial site in planning” said Grant.

Indicative estimates show approximately 25 million homes in the UK are still unserved. A rough estimate suggests several million of these still do not have access to high-speed internet or broadband services.

Globally, FWA is seeing explosive growth – a 64% rise in subscriptions between 2020 and 2023. This, anecdotally, is thanks to its speed of deployment and flexibility, especially in harder-to-reach or fast-developing areas.

“As networks transform to become part of a much broader digital ecosystem, it’s no longer just about connecting, it’s about excelling in system integration and orchestration” Grant explained.

“Our role is to guide customers through the complexity and design of networks that are not just fast, but fit-for-purpose.”

So, what should you consider when you’re choosing a telco solution? Here’s our advice:

  1. Speed vs. actual needs - are you paying for bandwidth or features you’ll never use?

  2. Deployment time - how quickly do you need to be connected - can fibre keep up?

  3. Scalability - will your network grow with your project or precinct?

  4. Site-specific challenges - are you working with hard-to-reach, temporary, or rural locations?

  5. Infrastructure integration - will the solution support your future automation, artificial intelligence or IoT system ambitions?

“We now have all the technology we could ever need to build robust, high-performing telco networks,” says Grant.

“The magic is in designing them cleverly, and cost-effectively, for the people and places they serve.”

At Teleauora, we believe telco doesn’t have to be confusing. With impressive global experience, award-winning service, and a commitment to custom solutions, we’re here to help councils, developers, and industry get it right - from the first conversation to the final connection.
